Albino Red-Tailed Shark
Care level: Intermediate
General Information: The Albino Red-Tailed Shark is a striking freshwater fish. It is known for its unique appearance, with a bright white body and distinctive red tail. Despite its name, this species is not actually a shark but rather a type of freshwater minnow native to Thailand.
Water Temperature: 24-28°C
PH level: 6.5-7.5
Adult Size Range: 15-20 cm in length.
Behavior: This fish can be territorial and may exhibit aggressive behaviour towards other fish, so it is important to provide ample hiding spots and space in the aquarium.
Tank Mates: Suitable tank mates include larger, more robust fish that can hold their own against its territorial nature, such as larger barbs or cichlids. It is best to avoid small or timid fish that may become targets of aggression.
Feeding: The Albino Red-Tailed Shark is an omnivorous fish that will thrive on a diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen or live foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. It is important to provide a varied diet to ensure optimal health and colouration in this species.
Feed once or twice a day, only giving them what they can consume in a few minutes to prevent overfeeding and water quality issues. It is recommended to fast them one day a week to mimic their natural feeding patterns and promote digestion.
Aquarium Needs: Requires a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and swimming space. They prefer a well-oxygenated tank with stable water parameters. Provide a tank size of at least 100 litres housed alone or 200 litres or more with other fish.
Care Level (out of 5): 3. Albino Red-Tailed Sharks are hardy fish but require a dedicated owner willing to provide proper care and attention to their needs.
