Blue Violet Love Bird CB

Love birds mate for life when kept together. Provide lots of attention/enrichment when keeping singularly

Caring for your Love Bird

Accessories: Love birds are intelligent animals and enjoy a high amount of stimulation. Love birds kept alone will require more interaction and toys to keep them entertained. Move toys around regularly and provide new toys.

Diet: Made up of 60-80% high quality pelleted food or complete love bird food with the remainder being made up of seeds, fruits, nuts, veg, sprouting seeds etc.

Housing: Love birds require as big an enclosure as possible to allow them to fly and exhibit their natural behaviours.  If keeping alone, much human interaction is required, for those who do not have a lot of time to spare, it is better to purchase 2 love birds or more.

If keeping in a smaller cage, birds will require daily exercise in a flight aviary, or to free fly in the home.

Health: Some common ailments that love birds may experience include respiratory infections, mites, and nutritional deficiencies. Regular veterinary check-ups and a balanced diet can help prevent these health issues. It is important to provide a clean and spacious environment for love birds to reduce the risk of respiratory infections. Additionally, offering a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables can help ensure they receive proper nutrition.

Nails: It is important to regularly trim your love bird’s nails to prevent them from becoming overgrown and causing discomfort or injury. Providing a rough surface for them to perch on can also help naturally wear down their nails.

Feathers: Regularly bathing your love bird and providing opportunities for them to preen can help maintain healthy feathers. Additionally, ensuring they have a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can support feather health and prevent issues like feather plucking.

Beak: Regularly monitoring your love bird’s beak for signs of overgrowth or deformities is essential for their overall health and well-being. Providing chew toys and mineral blocks can help keep their beak properly trimmed and prevent boredom.

Handling your Love Bird

In order to handle your love bird you will first need to invest some quality time in getting to know it and letting it trust you. Use treats and perches to coax your bird out. Once your bird is comfortable coming on to the perch, you can slowly teach it to land on your hand or shoulder for a treat. Over time the bird will develop a relationship with you and the treats likely wont be needed.
