Male Red Tri Color Crested Gecko CB23
Crested Geckos are crepuscular geckos from New Caledonia and are found in the rainforest. They exhibit extreme activity during the dusk and dawn hours but rest for many hours during the day.
Crested geckos are cold-blooded and ‘exothermic’. This means that they need heat from an outside source in order to maintain their body temperature.
Blackpool Reptiles stocks a variety of morphs and ages of crested geckos. We breed most of these in-house to provide our customers with the highest quality reptile and amphibian pets.
You should provide crested geckos with an arboreal enclosure to mimic their natural habitat. This allows them ample space for exercise. They enjoy climbing and jumping. Crested geckos can thrive in a bioactive terrarium that mirrors their natural habitat, promoting a healthier and more stimulating environment.
Caring for your Crested Gecko
Crested geckos live in a place with high humidity and must be sprayed 2-3 times a day to keep the correct levels in the enclosure. You should use a hygrometer to monitor humidity levels. They thrive in an arboreal environment with ample space for jumping. They exhibit their nocturnal behaviour by being most active at night. Some crested geckos will be active during the day. The majority come out at night and are seen wide-eyed and at their brightest colours enjoying the terrarium. Crested geckos thrive in a glass tank due to their wet environment, causing wood to often warp from the humidity.
You can choose from many substrates for your Red Tri Color crested gecko. Almost all are soil- or natural-fibre-based. You can select the substrate for your crested gecko based on personal preference; feel free to experiment by mixing different substrates to create the ideal environment.
You can consider using either plastic plants or live plants to enhance the aesthetics and environmental enrichment of the crested gecko’s enclosure. It is crucial to provide crested geckos with UVB lighting to meet their physiological requirements and maintain their health. Although they are nocturnal, they do have access to sunlight in the wild, and so we do recommend a UVB source. Heating is optional and depends on the temperature of your house. If required, provide heat in the colder months.
Turn off lighting at night. This helps your gecko understand the natural light cycle and act accordingly. In case you are unable to maintain the recommended temperatures, consider consulting with us to explore options for adding additional heating to the enclosure if the kit you choose does not come with this or if you are upgrading your existing tank.
