Temperature: 63-85°F (Celsius 17-29°C) Fittonias prefer warm temperatures and should be kept away from drafts or extreme temperature fluctuations.
Light: Position in bright light, but out of direct sun
Water: Water often to keep compost wet. Fittonias in terrariums or sealed glass pots require less watering since the humidity prevents compost from drying up.
Care/Maintenance: Fittonias don’t need trimming; however, dead leaves and stems should be removed to maintain their appearance. If a plant dies in the core, divide the clump and replant healthy bits, discarding the dead ones.

General Information: These eye-catching houseplants, which are small and low-growing with strongly veined leaves, thrive in humid environments. This makes them ideal for bottle gardens, and terrariums. Fittonias, also known as nerve plants, are great for adding a pop of colour to any indoor space.
Nerve Plants are used in damp terrariums where they will grow as a low creeping ground cover. They prefer low light conditions, and dislike bright, hot light. Most importantly the soil must be constantly and evenly moist and the humidity high, but with good airflow. Waterlogged or stagnant conditions will cause the plants to rot.
Apart from the aesthetic appeal of a planted terrarium there are some very real, tangible benefits for the animals. Living plants provide natural cover and climbing perches, shade, basking sites and maintain natural humidity. Just as live plants in an office can improve workers well-being, live plants in a terrarium will have the same effect for animals.
These plants are not just small houseplants but are a selected range of species that are ideally suited to the terrarium, including some of the more unusual or rare types. We have carefully selected the range so that there are plants to suit all habitats and growth patterns. There are succulents for arid environments, bromeliads, ground cover plants and epiphytes for jungle set up’s as well as aquatic plants and mosses.
These plants can enhance your pets terrrarium to create a natural and beautiful set up.
Over 40 different plant species are available in the range. For advice on turning your pets tank bioactive, or anything else, please contact us.
