Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Care/Maintenance: Feed with insects or fish food every 2-4 weeks during the growing season. Remove dead pitchers to encourage new growth.

General Information: Native to North America, Sarracenia plants are carnivorous and require high humidity levels to thrive. Commonly called pitcher plants due to their tubular leaves that trap insects. Sarracenia plants prefer acidic soil and you can grow them in containers or bog gardens.
Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants that grow in bog conditions where they trap insects using their upright tubular leaves. Keep constantly damp and if grown in a pot then they need to stand in a dish of about 1cm of water all the time. They must have very bright light and do well on a sunny windowsill. They will not tolerate hard water. Water with rain water or soft water. Their use in the terrarium is limited as they need to be damp all the time and do get quite large. Keep cool in winter.
Apart from the aesthetic appeal of a planted terrarium there are some very real, tangible benefits for the animals. Living plants provide natural cover and climbing perches, shade, basking sites and maintain natural humidity.
