Standings Day Gecko CB24
The Standings Day Gecko or Banded Day Gecko is a medium-sized arboreal lizard originating in Madagascar. These geckos require a tall terrarium with plenty of branches for climbing and hiding spots. They are known for their vibrant colours and unique banding patterns, making them a popular choice among reptile enthusiasts. Banded Day Geckos are also known for their bold personalities and active behaviour and are available for sale at Blackpool Reptiles.
The Standings Day Gecko is similar to other geckos except for the colour changes they experience through growth. When juveniles, Standing’s Day geckos have a green head and a brown and green body with banding over the back. As they grow, the back pattern fades and the bands break up into a speckled pattern. The head turns a brighter green and the tail bright blue.
Standings Day Geckos are similar to other day geckos in that they are fast moving and generally do not enjoy being handled, however, they are a beautiful display animal, and some owners are able to tame their lizards if kept from a young age.
Standings Day Geckos thrive in an arboreal environment with ample space for jumping and climbing. Unlike crested and gargoyle geckos that prefer a similar environment, Standings Day geckos are diurnal, meaning they are active during the daytime, unlike nocturnal geckos.
There are many substrates available for geckos, almost all being soil or natural fibre based. Selecting the substrate for your gecko is crucial; consider experimenting with different combinations to create an ideal mix for your pet.
Day Geckos require UVB. Although they often remain in the partial light, they do have access to sunlight in the wild, and so we do recommend a UVB source to keep their bones and skin healthy.
Standings Day Geckos require an ambient temperature of 75-80°F and a maximum temperature of 85°f, so a low wattage heat bulb or ceramic lamp should be provided. We recommend using a thermostat to control temperatures to prevent your pet gecko from overheating but also ensuring they have enough heat to process food correctly.
It is important to turn off lighting at night and any heating that is used, so that your gecko can understand the natural light cycle and act accordingly. If you are not reaching the advised temperatures, speak to us about adding extra heating to your enclosure.
A bioactive enclosure is highly recommended for Day Geckos as it mimics their natural habitat, providing essential enrichment for their physical and mental well-being. This setup not only enhances the well-being of your gecko but also simplifies the maintenance of your pet, making it easier for you to care for them. Bioactive custodians like isopods play a crucial role in recycling your pet’s waste, contributing to the cleanliness and balance of your gecko’s habitat. In addition, isopods can help break down organic matter and prevent mould growth in the enclosure.
In addition to providing enrichment, a bioactive tank enhances the visual appeal of your pet’s habitat, creating a more attractive and engaging environment for both you and your gecko.
Day Geckos feed on insects along with nectar and fruit juice. In captivity, meal supplements can be provided, which are fruit mixes and/or insect mixes. Some live insects should be provided to stirmulate natural hunting instincts. Live food should be dusted with calcium and +D3 supplements 1-2 times a week.
