Additional Information:

Strawberry Dart Frog CB

Blackpool Reptiles stocks a range of poison dart frogs for sale. One of the rarest being the Strawberry Poison Dart Frog (Oophaga pumilio). Strawberry Dart Frogs are not a specific colour; they are a species all of their own and come in many different colours and patterns, which is generally dependent on the area they are from.

Oophaga pumilio inhabits Central and South America, primarily residing in tropical rainforests. These frogs are known for their bright colours and toxic skin secretions, which function as a defence mechanism against predators.

Strawberry Dart Frogs most commonly appear in the “blue jeans” morph. This is a bright red frog with bright blue arms and legs, resembling a pair of blue jeans.

Oophaga pumilio, typically measuring between 2-2.5 cm as adults, are a small yet visually striking addition to the terrarium. The expected lifespan of this stunning species is up to 17 years with the correct care.

Strawberry Poison Dart Frog Care

To care for Oophaga pumilio, provide a rainforest-style enclosure, with the preferred choice being a bioactive terrarium. Dart frogs thrive in a bioactive enclosure with high humidity levels ranging from 70-80% and proper ventilation to mimic their natural environment.

Oophaga pumilio require external heating and lighting to maintain the proper temperature and light levels. Temperatures should range from 75–82°F (24–28°C) with a temperature drop of 5-9°F at night. You should take care and use a thermostat for the heating supply to avoid overheating dart frogs.

Humidity levels should range from 70-80%. Using live plants and forest substrates like moss and leaf litter can help increase humidity in the enclosure. There are a range of sprayers, misters, foggers, rain systems, and waterfalls suitable for your pet dart frog.

Strawberry Dart Frogs consume a variety of small insects like fruit flies and pinhead crickets. They should not be fed anything larger than this, so as they grow, more of the same food should be offered rather than offering less of a larger food, which they are unlikely to eat.

Isopods benefit dart frog enclosures by aiding in waste management and decomposing plant matter, creating a cleaner and more natural environment for your pet. This means less cleaning for you and a more natural, enriching enclosure for your pet.
