Exporting Live Animals

From the UK

Due to Brexit, changes have been made to the way we move reptiles out of the UK.

Each animal that needs to leave the UK now needs to be exported from the UK and imported to the relevant country whilst being declared with its breeding history to show proof of F2 generation.

This can be a lengthy process, so we wanted to give you some information about the way it works, and the people you will need to contact in order to begin the process.

Company export policy

Our company policy states that in order for us to apply for your animal to be exported, we must receive the following:

  • At least 50% (non-refundable deposit) of the total price of the animal/s
  • £250 Administration fee
  • The date that the livestock would leave us

We request that all customers ensure they have the above in place before contacting us to ensure a smooth application process. Please note: we can hold livestock for 4-6 weeks in which time we will process your paperwork. Animals which are held for longer will incur boarding charges.

Exporting to the EU

We have previously exported live animals to the EU which is a relatively straight forward process. We would initially need to make an application to export the animal with UK authorities- This can take around 3-12 weeks to process just depending on how busy they are. Once we have received the export certificate via post we will give this to you and you will apply for the import certificate. 48 hours prior to transportation we will take your animal for its vet check to make sure it is fit to travel, we will require the vet fee following this and before your animal leaves us.

Price: £250 administration fee, £100 vet check- fit to travel ( to be paid to us) plus any additional courier costs (paid directly to the courier), tax payments or anything else required by the EU authorities

Transporting your animal

We are able to arrange flights to the EU at your selected airport providing they accept freight cargo. This is a consideration you will need to make in order to arrange transport or collection at the airport. All animals may need to be checked at the border control post in the relevant country.

There are other EU courier services that we can suggest during the process, or you are welcome to arrange your own courier.

The Pet Bus – we have used the Pet Bus before. A reliable fully licensed courier who can collect from us and deliver to you in EU. UK transport also available.

Exporting to Jersey

We have previously exported live animals to Jersey which is a relatively straight forward process. We would initially need to make an application to export the animal with UK authorities- This can take around 3-12 weeks to process just depending on how busy they are. Once we have received the export certificate via post we can then let the authorities in Jersey know about the expected import, arrange transportation (via courier below or your own transportation) and get vet checks 48 hours before traveling.

Price: £250 administration fee, £100 vet check- fit to travel ( to be paid to us) plus any additional courier costs (paid directly to the courier), tax payments or anything else required by the Jersey authorities.

Exporting to the USA

We have previously exported to the USA which unfortunately can be a costly process when sending only 1 animal. Due to the fees and freight flight costs for an individual animal, the fees work out cheaper per animal for a larger shipment, however we are able to export singular animals.

The process includes applying for the export certificate and cites certificate (for certain species) fees are £250 for the application and £100 for the vet check, arranging air freight flights (Usually costing around £1000-£2000) and then clearing the animal at US customs. There may be additional fees to pay on the US side such as tax on the goods, along with additional applications or clearing protocols. For more information please see US Department of agriculture website:

For UK enquiries please see James and Cargo Services:

Unfortunately we are unable to give flight quotes until the paperwork has been completed and you have a set date in mind for when you would like to receive the shipment.
