Green Anoles are small arboreal lizards originating in the south USA. They are small green lizards with a strikingly bright red dewlap, which they use to warn predators and attract mates.
Green Anole are often kept as pets due to their vibrant colours and relatively easy care requirements. They need an arboreal-style enclosure measuring at least 30×30×45cm to ensure sufficient space for climbing and basking activities. When housing multiple anoles, aim for an enclosure size of 45×45×45cm or larger.
Anoles need an ambient temperature of 23.9-29.4°C during the day and around 21.1°C at night. They also require a basking temperature of 29.4-35°C. For Green Anole, provide the required temperatures using a heat lamp or ceramic heat source. In winter, a heat mat can be used for extra ambient warmth if needed. You should also provide UVB lighting using a compact or strip light for the Green Anole’ health.
Maintain the required high humidity of around 60-80% by regularly spraying the enclosure or using a rain system to ensure the Green Anole have access to drinking opportunities. You can also place a water bowl in the enclosure, as the anoles will learn to locate it for additional hydration when needed.
Green Anole enjoy a diet of small insects such as crickets and mealworms along with fruit mix such as pangea and jelly pots. Before feeding insects to the Green Anole, dust them with a calcium supplement. Additionally, use calcium with vitamin D3 a couple of times a week for the Green Anole’ nutritional needs.
