Blue Budgie CB
Docile, gentle and intelligent birds, some are able to communicate better than parrots. Make great pets and are easy to tame.
Accessories: Enjoys stimulation– provide several types of toy and mirrors. It is important to regularly change toys as budgies will get bored easily. Budgies love bells! Baths are also adored so provide a bath and suitable bathing sand. Add fresh fruit and nuts as enrichment for your pet.
Diet: Most of a budgies diet must consist of pellets and complete budgie foods. This will make up between 60-80% of their diet. The remaining 20-40% should be made up of fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables and other treats. Budgies require a mixed diet to remain healthy.
Housing: Budgies should be kept in a suitable cage, the recommended minimum enclosure size is 6ocm Lx 45cm H x45cm D or (L 2x wingspan, D/H 1.5x wingspan) for a single bird. Cages should include food and water dishes, enrichment accessories (toys of different sizes, materials and textures), Perches, Dust bath and health care supplements.
Handling: Budgies are tame birds which can be handled, however we recommend doing this slowly with your new pet. For instance talk softly to the bird and offer it treats to show it that you are not there to harm it. Over time your budgie should jump on to your hand– make sure the windows and doors are closed. Never pick your budgie up from above or grab it which can cause stress. Handling on a daily routine will help your bird to understand handling times.
