Bumblebee Poison Dart Frog CB23

Dart frogs enjoy a rain forest environment with sphagnum moss and a mix of natural products such as leaf litter, live plants and cork bark. Many keepers combine similar species of poison dart frog in small groups in a bio set up with custodians (clean up crew) which maintain the environment naturally by feeding on the frogs’ waste. The frogs are typically fed fruit flies, pinhead crickets, and springtails.

The Bumblebee Poison Dart frogs for sale at Blackpool Reptiles, Dendrobates leucomelas, are a striking dart frog with vibrant yellow and black striped patterns resembling a bumblebee.

Poison dart frogs generally live on the forest floor of hot and humid countries, which means they require a cooler temperature than you may think. In captivity, they enjoy temperatures of 21-26 degrees Celsius (70-80 degrees Fahrenheit). Avoid keeping these frogs at high temperatures for an extended period as it can lead to heat stress, which is fatal for them.

Since it has been shown to maintain the health of their bones and skin, dart frogs should be provided with low-level UVB light, just like they would in the wild, under the canopy.

Avoid using tap water for your frog to prevent skin irritation; Instead, opt for dechlorinated water by letting tap water sit uncovered for 24 to 48 hours, using chlorine-free bottled water, or utilizing a water dechlorinator like Reptiasafe to ensure the water is safe for your frog’s skin.

Waterfalls and misters are a fine addition to a dart frog tank where they can be found sitting by the waterfall feeding daily. LED lighting can improve the appearance of your tank and are is a must in a display tank. You can also purchase terrarium fans which prevent the glass in your tank from fogging up.

Dart frogs can be kept together in groups however this should be within the species and not with other species of dart frog unless you have done adequate research on which species can be kept comunally. Ensure enough food is provided for a number of frogs.

These tiny but stunning frogs should not be handled due to their very delicate skin, as the chemicals on our hands can cause harm. If you need to clean your frog tank, collect the frogs in a tub and wear disposable gloves in case you need to handle them.
