Chocolate Millipede
Most millipedes have around 100 legs, usually a pair on each segment of their body. There are around 7000 species of millipede in the world originating in many places and generally preferring warm damp areas.
Chocolate millipedes are a large species of millipede originating in tropical regions such as Africa and South America. They require a humid environment with plenty of hiding spots and a diet of decaying plant matter. It is important to provide them with a substrate that retains moisture well to prevent dehydration.
Chocolate millipedes make excellent starter pets due to their easy care requirements and docile temperament. Moreover, their unique appearance and behavior make them captivating to observe. They feed on a variety of decaying plant matter, such as leaves and wood, and can live for several years in captivity with proper care. They also enjoy rotting vegetables and fruits as occasional treats. In summary, chocolate millipedes are low-maintenance pets that can provide enjoyment to hobbyists interested in exotic invertebrates.
For housing, provide a terrarium of at least 18.9 liters (equivalent to 5 gallons) with coconut fiber or peat moss substrate, and consider using forest or jungle bedding mixed with leaf litter. A heat mat should be provided as these millipedes require temperatures of around 24-29°C (equivalent to 75-85°F).
We always recommend the use of a thermostat with any heating product.
