Giant Mexican Leaf Frog 3-5cm CB

The Giant Mexican Leaf Frog, Agalychnis dacnicolor, is a species of tree frog native to Mexico and Central America. They require a warm and humid environment with plenty of vegetation to climb and hide in. Additionally, they should be fed a diet of live insects, such as crickets and mealworms, to ensure proper nutrition.

The growth rate of the Giant Mexican Leaf Frog can vary, with some individuals reaching up to 10cm in length. Factors such as diet, habitat conditions, and care can influence their lifespan, which typically ranges from 5 to 10 years in captivity. Known for their stunning appearance, the Giant Mexican Leaf Frog displays bright green coloration, a white undercarriage, and striking black eyes with silver and white flecks, which serve as camouflage in their natural habitat, aiding in both predation and protection.

External heating is crucial to maintaining the frog’s metabolic functions, while UVB light aids in calcium absorption for bone health, both essential for their survival and well-being in captivity. Ambient temperatures should reach around 25-30 degrees Celsius ( 77-86 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and drop slightly at night to mimic their natural habitat. It is important to provide a shallow water dish for them to soak in and maintain proper humidity levels in their enclosure. The basking spot should reach no higher than 32 degrees Celsius (89 degrees fahrenheit) to prevent overheating. A UVB light should also be provided for proper calcium absorption.

Avoid using tap water for your frog, as it may lead to skin irritation. Instead, opt for dechlorinated water by letting tap water sit uncovered for 24 to 48 hours, using chlorine-free bottled water, or utilising a water dechlorinator like Reptiasafe to ensure the water is safe for your frog’s skin. For your frog, always use dechlorinated water. Tap water can be dechlorinated by leaving it uncovered for 24 to 48 hours; you can also use bottled water that is chlorine-free or a water dechlorinator like Reptiasafe.

For your frog, we suggest a bio-active tank that will provide them with an atmosphere that is comparable to their natural home. With the help of bio-active caretakers, bio-active tanks can be self-cleaning and accommodate a variety of live plants, water features, and other elements. For your frog, you can alternatively use a conventional kit with fake decorations.
