Green Horned Frog CB24
Pacman frogs are a large species of land-dwelling frog. At Blackpool Reptiles we only sell captive bred horned frogs, the majority of which are bred in-house. To thrive, these frogs require a terrarium equipped with a secure lid, appropriate substrate, and a spacious water dish for soaking. The temperature in their enclosure should be kept between 24-29°C, and the humidity level should be between 50-80%.
When fully grown, Pacman frogs can reach a size of around 4-7 inches in length, generally. Consider their adult size when planning their enclosure size and selecting appropriately sized prey for them. It is important to note that amphibians, including Pacman frogs, are highly sensitive to chlorine and other chemicals found in tap water. Therefore, it is essential to use dechlorinated water for their water dish and for misting the enclosure. You can use either bottled water, or tap water left uncovered for 48 hours.
Pacman frogs are carnivorous, and their diet should consist of appropriately sized insects, such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms. They also enjoy small rodents, such as mice and pinkie rats. It is essential to provide them with enough food to keep them healthy, but it’s equally important not to overfeed them. Overfeeding can lead to obesity, which can cause health problems for them.
Pacman frogs also require calcium supplementation to maintain their bone health. You can provide them with calcium by dusting their food with calcium powder or by providing a calcium supplement in their water. It’s essential to provide them with the appropriate amount of calcium to prevent metabolic bone disease. However, it’s equally important not to over-supplement them, as this can also lead to health problems. Horned frogs require D3 at least once a week. Horned frogs should be provided with a low level of UVB, which can help stimulate their appetite, digestion, and promote calcium absorption. If you decide to provide UVB lighting, make sure to use a low output bulb, as high output bulbs can cause eye damage to amphibians. It is also essential to provide a sheltered space in the terrarium, as Pacman frogs may want to retreat from the light.
It is important to keep their terrarium clean and to provide fresh, dechlorinated water regularly. Regular monitoring of the temperature and humidity levels is also necessary to ensure their well-being. We have a range of frog enclosures, which include the products needed to care for your horned frog. Please note, horned frogs must be kept individually.
