ProRep Live Plant. Bromeliad Collection (20 PLANTS)
Bromeliads are suited for use in forest set ups. You can attach them to rocks or branches, or plant in a well drained soil. If you plant them in waterlogged conditions it will cause them to quickly rot as the use their roots for attachment rather than collecting water or nutrients.
You can easily scorch them by using hot lights so be sure to plant them in a fairly bright position, but out of direct light. They will also tolerate shade. They absorb most of the nutrients that they need through the leaves in the centre of the leaf whorl, where it forms a natural bowl. You need to keep the central cup filled with water, which will happen naturally with spray systems. The occasional dead insect or frog dropping will decompose to provide nutrients, or you can use a weak foliar fertilizer. Occasionally the plant may flower after which it will produce young plants, called pups, at the base and then the parent plant will die.
- Reptile & amphibian safe
- Great for bio-active setups
- Easy to care for inside terrarium
- Absorbs CO2 during the day
