General Information: Maranta plants are known for their unique foliage that folds up at night, resembling hands in prayer. They are native to the tropical regions of the Americas and thrive in high humidity environments. This makes them perfect for the terrarium.

The Prayer Planty is a common houseplant, but in the terrarium it takes on a new lease of life. Thriving in warm, humid conditions. In a evenly moist soil it forms clumps of upright leaves and is an ideal background plant. Because it will tolerate shade or bright light then it can be used in many positions, and its attractive variagted leaves, with dark stems, work well when planted with other foliage plants.

Apart from the aesthetic appeal of a planted terrarium there are some very real, tangible benefits for the animals. Living plants provide natural cover and climbing perches, shade, basking sites and maintain natural humidity. Just as live plants in an office can improve workers well-being, live plants in a terrarium will have the same effect for animals.
