General Information: Devil’s Ivy is a versatile plant that can be grown in hanging baskets or as a trailing plant. It is known for its air-purifying qualities, making it a great addition to any indoor space. Fantastic in Jungle style enclosures.
Devils Ivy will grow in a wide range of light and moisture conditions. It will not tolerate permanent dry conditions. Without a doubt it does best in a moist, humid terrarium with good light.
Under these conditions it can become a bit of a monster producing large leaves and overtaking a terrarium. However, there is an advantage of this plant. You can prune it back hard within a few nodes of the soil and it will come back just as vigorous as before.
You can trim the vine back to the required position. If you leave the main vine in place and just trim back to the same length all the time then it will get thicker and thicker and create a fantastic jungle effect.
Apart from the aesthetic appeal of a planted terrarium there are some very real, tangible benefits for the animals. Living plants provide natural cover and climbing perches, shade, basking sites and maintain natural humidity. Just as live plants in an office can improve workers well-being, live plants in a terrarium will have the same effect for animals.
